These works are painted with the melting snows and Delaware River waters that sustained Indigenous peoples for countless centuries. These ancestral lands remind us of our shared journey.
The water carries a deep spiritual presence. As I paint, I feel the entities giving of themselves through my brush. At times I feel alone on a mountaintop with the spirits, my hands trembling with the responsibility of translating something sacred.
When my brush touches the paper—wetted with this living water—I become connected to the clouds above, the winds that move through me, and the sun that warms my back. I paint with the elements themselves. They guide me from the past, especially in moments when I feel spiritually lost.
Each piece is not just an image—it is a communion with place, memory, and spirit.

I started learning watercolors late in life at 55 years. Although I had always been a huge champion of Singer Sargent or Jamie Wyeth, little did I realise that I was studying them when I chased after them in museums. Knowing what is possible, what is impossible. That it is a job like any other, there are rules to make & break. Part of the problem with watercolors is that it sounds so deceptively simple: water & paint. How hard can that be ? Look at a Wyeth that would take him a month to finish without destroying the paper. So I developed my own style without a class. It's rather simple, I still paint light.
