Hi there! I'm Mark Sandey, a mathematics student at the University of California, Riverside. Currently, I'm working on getting my B.S. in Mathematics but I plan on going to graduate school in mathematics and continuing my journey to learn as much math as I can.
In the past, I have done research with Dr. Yiwei Wang on mathematically modelling collective behavior in animals, and with Dr. Patricio Gallardo Candela centered on trying to use Lean and Hilbert's axioms to formalize Euclidean geometry.
More recently, I have done research with Andrea Abeje-Stine on a compositional framework for open systems in classical mechanics, with Dr. Bobby Wilson on the Heil-Ramanathan-Topiwala conjecture, and with Dr. Vijay Higgins and Dr. Ko Honda on computing presentations of skein algebras.
Outside of mathematics, I enjoy reading (especially science-fiction and fantasy), listening to and playing music (I primarily play guitar), playing tabletop games and tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs), and spending time with friends and family.
I am an openly queer and transgender human being and believe that mathematics should be for everyone regardless of age, gender, sex, race, ethnicity, or any of the many constituent components of one's identity. You may have noticed the asexual (ace) pride flag patch on my jacket on the picture on the left hand side. This is intentional. I am an advocate for ace visibility as they are especially underrepresented and often left out when discussing the queer and trans community as a whole. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding queer and trans identities.
