Marilyn Embodies and Envisions Strategic Plan Ideals
Economic Prosperity
Marilyn's Vision: Because Camas residents support local businesses, making our community attractive for merchants. We need to increase commercial ventures, which will broaden revenue streams and minimizes resident taxes and fees. An identified strategy for our city is the creation of an Economic Development Committee.
Serves as a member of DCA's Economic Vitality Committee.
Analyzes budget, ensures appropriate expenditures based on Council approval.
Participates in community "think tank" activities to investigate broader and alternative revenue sources and attraction of new businesses, large and small.
Routinely questions zoning and municipal code proposals to maintain city focus on housing options for all income levels and demographics.
Meets with merchants monthly to share and glean information that will help them attain financial goals and augment our community's assets and financial viability.
Safe & Accessible Community
Marilyn's Vision: While community surveys indicate very high satisfaction with the safeness of our community, our police and fire staffing remain below best practices. I know we can do better. I will persist.
Advocates relentlessly for increased Police and Fire staffing.
Served on Joint Policy Advisory Committee for development of Regional Fire Authority proposal as indicated by industry standard and staff and community safety assurance.
Adding a playground at Crown Park that is accessible to ALL is a great first step, along with curb bulb-outs, elimination of step-up requirements, dedicated and separated bike lanes, and continuing the Complete Streets goals. Work remains to be done in this area.
Stewardship of City Assets
Marilyn's Vision: The City of Camas staff members work diligently to improve infrastructure, strengthen cybersecurity, and incorporate new systems for asset management. Marilyn is fully supportive of this along with plans to create a comprehensive ten-year financial model for the consolidated Capital Improvement Plan in order to improve and enhance infrastructure.
Vibrant Community Amenities
Marilyn's Vision: People want to live and raise their families in Camas because of our attention to parks, livability, art, and small town yet chic feel. Creating a central gathering space/plaza is a goal, as is capitalizing on waterfront property as it becomes available. Marilyn has requested assignment to the Parks & Recreation team.
Engages with community frequently through attendance and volunteering for events and activities.
Participates in bi-monthly Library Board meetings to learn about and promote programs that engage the hearts and minds of residents.
Participates in semi-annual surveys of community members to understand in which activities people are interested in participating.
Engaged Workforce
Marilyn's Vision: As a former HR Director, Marilyn has a passion for employee well-being and satisfaction, and understands how critical retention of our staff and their workplace safety are. Marilyn has vast experience in fostering an inclusive workplace culture, and appropriate staffing levels will continue to be insisted upon.
