ABOUT THE BOOK
The War Between the States is over, but life is far from peaceful for the civilians of Petersburg and nearby City Point. Military rule is in effect with Union soldiers on patrol; carpetbaggers are in the area looking for easy profits; homes, businesses and farms need to be rebuilt; and the desolate land, so ravaged after ten months of siege with miles of fortified trenches and craters must be restored.
The story continues with the families of Bekah, Clara, Juliette, and Molly as they try and move forward to what lies ahead with the same determination they found during the war. Bekah Reynolds and her new husband, along with their friends, are moving on with their lives as best they can. But a scoundrel has come to town and is making life difficult and wreaking havoc wherever he goes. A barn fire adds to the mysterious events, making it seem as though someone is trying to sabotage the land for their own gains, not caring who is hurt in the process.
Will the Southern defeat be too much for them to overcome? Will they be able to protect their loved ones from the onslaught of a greedy entrepreneur? See if the friends are able to beware the scoundrel.
