Mapping temporal and spatial patterns in climate conditions

Particularly in light of the current climate change, research on climate data has gained great importance. The selected maps visualise observed patterns in precipitation and temperature. All maps were created in QGIS.

Average difference in precipitation between summer and winter months

This map displays the stark contrast in summer and winter precipitation in the different regions in Germany on average between 1970 and 2000. While the Alpes receive substantially more precipitation in summer, the German Southwest has a higher net gain in winter.

Increase in summer temperatures in Europe

This project aimed to identify the European regions most vulnerable to forest drought. Temperature is one of the most important factors for such an analysis. As show, the average summer temperatures in Europe have increased notably for most regions.

Seasonal change in global temperatures

The global change in temperatures in 1975 highlight especially the difference in seasonal temeprature change in the Southern and Northern Hemisphere, as well as the world's large mountain ranges.
