We are pleased to inform our community that yesterday, May 19, 2024, at around 4 PM, the Sangguniang Barangay of Maricaban, Tingloy, Batangas, held a productive meeting to discuss the safety practices and precautions for the upcoming fluvial procession. This significant event, initiated by the Kapisanan ng Nagkakaisang Damdamin (KND) led by Barangay Kagawad Hon. Cleofas S. Maravilla, is a vital part of the Flores de Mayo celebration. In cooperation and full support of the Sangguniang Barangay, under the leadership of Punong Barangay Virgilito S. Manalo, the management of KND has coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard for the conduct of the fluvial procession, which is scheduled to take place on May 31, 2024, kicking off precisely at 6 AM.
We expect numerous tour boats to join this event, and the Coast Guard Sub Station, led by CG PO1 Joefregil M. Salcedo, will vigilantly monitor the event to ensure the safety of all participating bancas and individuals. Additionally, the Sangguniang Barangay will provide two motorized bancas with onboard emergency responders to further ensure everyone's safety. Moreover, the Coast Guard Sub Station of Tingloy, under CG PO1 Salcedo's leadership, took this opportunity to discuss crucial safety precautions for our fisherfolks while they are fishing in the municipal waters of Tingloy, especially now that PAGASA has issued notices regarding the Habagat season.
On May 17, 2024, our vibrant community came together for a successful community cleanup at Barangay Proper, covering the three Sitios: Ibaba, Centro, and Ilaya. This marks our 19th week (May 12-18, 2024) of consistent dedication to cleanliness and environmental stewardship, in compliance with the Department of the Interior and Local Government's (DILG) Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas Program. Under the steadfast leadership of our Hon. Punong Barangay, Virgilito S. Manalo, 22 enthusiastic participants, including 9 dedicated barangay officials, worked hand-in-hand to keep our surroundings clean and green.

As the nation celebrated Labor Day with fervor and dedication this May 1, 2024, our community showcased the true spirit of unity and hard work through a synchronous clean-up initiative! Led by Punong Barangay Virgilito S. Manalo and the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries, alongside their dedicated Parent Leaders, we embarked on a mission to beautify our surroundings and promote cleanliness. Covering the areas of Sitio Ibabaw and Sitio Maybalon, as well as the vicinity of our local school and public roads, our combined effort made a significant impact. We are proud to report that eight Barangay officials, including the Secretary and Treasurer, stood side by side with our energetic barangay volunteers, demonstrating their commitment to building a cleaner, greener community. This harmonious collaboration truly exemplifies the power of collective action and the strength of our community bonds. This monumental event marks the 17th week of the Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas Program initiated by the DILG. Today, May 8, 2024, our barangay showcased its unwavering commitment to cleanliness and cooperation as we embarked on our 18th week of community cleanup. Under the steadfast leadership of our Honorable Punong Barangay Virgilito S. Manalo, nine dedicated barangay officials joined hands with diligent barangay volunteers to ensure the success of this endeavor. Together, we gathered at the shortcut road traversing Sitio Ibabaw going to Sitio Maybalon, starting bright and early at 6:30 AM. With a total of 22 enthusiastic individuals, we tirelessly worked to rid our beloved barangay of litter and debris, demonstrating our shared responsibility for maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.
Last April 23, 2024, Sitio Sampalukan witnessed an inspiring display of community spirit and environmental stewardship during our Coastal Cleanup event! Led by our very own Punong Barangay, Honorable Virgilito S. Manalo, alongside the dedicated Sangguniang Barangay Officials, barangay volunteers, and enthusiastic community members particularly tour boat operators and motorman, we made a significant impact on the cleanliness of our coastline facing Mindoro passage. From 7 AM to 10 AM, our team worked tirelessly, combing through the sands and shores, collecting coastal debris that not only mars the beauty of our coastline but poses a threat to marine life. The most common items we found were PETE 1 bottles and glass bottles, which accounted for a significant portion of the collected debris. This event wasn't just about cleaning up; it was about coming together as a community to protect our environment and preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us. It's heartening to see everyone's eager participation and dedication to making a difference.
With the invaluable assistance of the dedicated personnel from TETR Construction, who are already hard at work on the Multipurpose Covered Court project, the Sangguniang Barangay, under the leadership of Punong Barangay Virgilito S. Manalo, has initiated a transformative project: the replacement of wooden canal covers with durable steel channel drain grates. This initiative, starting with Sitio Ilaya and Sitio Centro, aims to ensure safer and cleaner canals throughout our community. By upgrading these canal covers, we're not only enhancing the overall aesthetics but also mitigating potential safety hazards and promoting proper drainage. But that's not all—this is just the beginning! In the near future, we're committed to extending this vital upgrade to other small canals across Barangay Maricaban.
We are thrilled to share with you the highlights of our recently concluded 10th Regular Meeting of the Sangguniang Barangay last April 20, 2024, at around 2 o'clock in the afternoon! One of the key agenda points was the preparation for the much-awaited implementation of the rehabilitation and improvement project for the public road in Sitio Ibaba. This project, particularly focusing on the steep road connecting to and from the barangay proper and the upper land portion owned by the late Mr. Amado Villarica's family, holds significant importance for our community. With great pride, we announce that this project will be funded out of the 20% Development Fund, a testament to our commitment to the continuous enhancement of our barangay infrastructure. The Sangguniang Barangay has diligently recommended this project for Public Bidding, marking the first step towards its realization. We eagerly anticipate the implementation phase once the notice to proceed is given to the winning contractor. The road in Sitio Ibaba has long been known to be slippery, especially during wet conditions, posing a serious threat to motorcycle riders and pedestrians alike. With the full support and unanimous agreement of our Sangguniang Barangay kagawads, our Punong Barangay is determined to enhance and widen this road to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our community. Furthermore, upon the completion of this project, the remaining funds in the 20% Development Fund will be allocated towards the construction and improvement of the road in Sitio Bulihan

Sharing with you the success of our recent coastal cleanup held last April 20, 2024, at Sitio Sampalukan as part of the 15th week implementation of the Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas Program initiated by the DILG. With the combined efforts of 27 enthusiastic individuals, including 10 dedicated barangay officials, we made a significant impact on preserving the beauty of our coastal environment. Starting bright and early at 7AM, our team rolled up their sleeves and tirelessly picked up litter and debris along the shoreline. Despite the challenges, their commitment never wavered. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, we completed the cleanup by 10AM, leaving Sitio Sampalukan looking cleaner and more pristine than ever before.

This significant event marked the official turnover of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) located in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Maricaban, Tingloy, Batangas. Among these participants were 10 barangay officials and the invaluable beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, whose support and enthusiasm are truly commendable. This week's initiative focused on the meticulous cleaning and improvement efforts in Sitio Ibabaw and Maybalon, ensuring that every corner of our Barangay reflects the spirit of cleanliness and progress. We're proud to announce that each of the five deployed teams, stationed at Dapdap, Dugong Cave, Mapating, Sitio Bulihan, and La Laguna, has been working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. These teams, comprised of Barangay officials, Health Workers, Public Safety Officers, Nutrition Scholars, and Child Development Workers, have united in their commitment to serve, demonstrating an unwavering dedication to the welfare of Barangay Maricaban.

Today, the Barangay Hall of Barangay Maricaban in Tingloy, Batangas, served as the focal point for a vital civic exercise as the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) initiated a Satellite Registration event. With the overarching theme "Karapatang Bumoto, Simulan sa Pagpaparehistro" (Right to Vote Starts with Registration), this event aimed to bolster voter participation and civic engagement in the community.
Led by COMELEC Officer Marilyn S. Belino, in close collaboration with the Sangguniang Barangay of Barangay Maricaban, Tingloy, Batangas, and supported by her dedicated staff, notably Ms. Nancy Recto, the COMELEC Tingloy team spearheaded the registration efforts with efficiency and enthusiasm.

These discussions encompassed a wide array of subjects, ranging from governance to social services and public safety.

Attendees delved into the world of data organization, learned essential Excel formulas, and discovered the art of presenting information through graphs and charts. The highlight of the session was the deliberation on crucial matters, prominently featuring the imminent implementation of Ordinance No. 04, Series of 2023, aptly named "Basura Mo, Bitbitin Mo." This innovative ordinance, authored by the Vice Mayor herself and approved in 2023, aims to curb the volume of biodegradable and infectious waste on the island of Tingloy.
Under this ordinance, non-residents visiting the island for leisure purposes will be required to pay a nominal fee of 200 pesos for every two persons. In return, they will receive two trash bags - one designated for biodegradable waste and the other for infectious waste. Termed as the "garbage bond," the fee will be refunded upon the proper return of the trash bags filled with collected waste. Failure to return the bags will result in the forfeiture of the garbage bond, with the funds automatically contributing to the general fund of the municipal government.
Another significant agenda item was the passage of a resolution commending the Philippine Coast Guard for their swift and successful rescue operation in locating two missing fisherfolks from Barangay San Juan, the siblings Wilbert and Glenn Binay. Authored by SB Member Danny R. Datingaling, the Sangguniang Bayan members expressed their gratitude for the Coast Guard's dedication to ensuring the safety of the community.
During the unassigned business discussion, the Sangguniang Barangay received accolades from the Sangguniang Bayan members for their commendable improvements in services. In a significant step towards enhancing recreational and community facilities, the construction of a Multipurpose Covered Court has officially commenced in the vicinity of Marikaban Elementary School. The project, valued at 6.826 million pesos, involves the renovation of the existing basketball court, transforming it into a versatile covered space to serve various activities.
This ambitious undertaking is part of the Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) initiative, included in the General Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2023. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Batangas II District Engineering Office is overseeing the implementation, ensuring that the project meets the highest standards.
The driving force behind this community-centric project is Congresswoman Attorney Gerville "Jinky Bitrics" Luistro. Through her efforts, the convergence and special support program have made it possible to allocate funds for the improvement of local infrastructure. The Multipurpose Covered Court aims to provide a dedicated space for sports, cultural events, and community gatherings, fostering a sense of unity among the residents.
Punong Barangay Virgilito S.
