Before coming to Chandler Elementary, I taught 3rd and 2nd grade at Garden Grove Elementary. I began my teaching career in 1995 at Bassett Elementary Teaching in a Spanish bilingual classroom.
Current Position:
I am a Title 1 and English Learner Coordinator at Chandler Elementary. I provide teachers with instructional support and strategies for at-risk-students. I help monitor English Learners on their path to reclassification. I plan and coordinate parent involvement workshops, help run the parent English Learner Advisory Committee, and assist the principal with writing and evaluating the Schools Plan for Student Achievement. I am not an administrator; therefore, I do not evaluate teachers. I work closely with the principal and teachers to support student achievement.
School Committee:
This is my second year as a member of the school's Technology Committee. Our committee's goal is to support teachers in bringing computer science into every classroom, TK-5th. Last year we began providing teacher professional development on the basic use of Google Docs, Google Forms, Slides, and Google Classroom. Towards the end of the last school year, we trained the majority of our teachers on Blockly and DASH robots.
Teaching:
I support teachers with designated and integrated English Language Development (ELD) lessons. I teach 3rd and 4th grade ELD. I teach and model computer science lessons in physical computing using Blockly with the DASH robot, iMovie and green screen, Google Slides, Code.org, and a few teaching Apps.
Vision Statement:
The staff, students, parents and community of Chandler Learning Academy commit to providing all students with a safe learning environment that nurtures and fosters mutual respect for all, in order to meet academic and social standards in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society.
