As a highschool student, I plan on pursuing a degree in engineering. Originally I had wanted to pursue a degree in computer science brought on by my love of games and technology. I grew an interest in engineering near the end of middle school.
So far the classes I have taken to set myself up to study engineering in college include honors or AP level Algebra I, II, Geometry, Honors Pre-Calculus and am currently enrolled in Calculus. I have also taken AP computer science, Honors Chemistry and have taken AP Physics. I am on the GMHS college preparatory track, and I am enrolled in the Forest Career and Technical Center 2 year engineering program. Thus far, I have learned that I have to work hard to do well in school. I have learned that good daily study habits are a must to maintain good learning.
I'm a member of The National Honors Society (NHS), which teaches its 4 pillars, Scholarship, leadership, Character, and Service. Its gives volunteering opportunities for students in my school and around the nation. I used to be apart of the Leo Club, another volunteering group in Ridge Maryland, a subsect of the lions club meant for people under 18. I went into it for my full middle school years and acquired around 15 hours, teaching me hard work.
I've also been in a club called Girls Who Code freshman and sophomore year, freshman year i did an after school coding activity, help girl scouts with coding games. Lastly an activity I work on is piano, which taught me patience when it came to learning. Now I have the responsibility of babysitting and being employed as a hostess at Red Robin.
There had been discussion on the idea of becoming an Officer in the Navy, because my dad had been enlisted at one point, but it was eventually settled. Once I graduate High School I plan on attending the community college College of Southern Maryland(CSM). This decision was due to my parents finding it cheaper, and that it is a good school. I'll try to attain an apprenticeship or internship somewhere during or right after my college years. And eventually I'll work my way up to a 4 year degree.
Upon college graduation with my degree I wish to work as a contractor, or in a future selected engineering field. I want to work with mechanics and the newly growing platform, AI. Work on putting them together and discovering the pros and cons on working/building them together. The impact this would have may be revolutionary, and bring on a new age of machine learning and synthetic minds. As the capabilities of expert systems grow, bringing on regulations for safety, robotics and AI could help in medical fields, problem solving, autonomy and new ways of thinking.
