Lumen Circles Belonging and Inclusive Teaching Fellowship

I completed Lumen’s community of practice Inclusive Teaching Fellowship during the summer of 2021. This fellowship opportunity allowed me to explore and implement evidence-based teaching practices to increase student engagement and support student success. The community of practice connected educators from around the nation as they explored issues related to equity and inclusion within their disciple.

Open Educational Resources

I’ve developed free and low-cost resources in lieu of traditional textbooks to help students who cannot afford expensive textbooks. The price of a textbook may seem small in the context of the full cost of a college education; however, I believe in the equity and access afforded by the promise of OER and advocate for their adoption.

Open Pedagogy

Working with students to co-create and collaborate on open assignments helped students gain more agency in their learning and express their authentic selves. It also allowed me to see the diverse learning needs of my students.
