About

I’m a dad, writer, editor, teacher, and occasional carpenter. My writing has been published in over a dozen little magazines and been reprinted in a few “Best of” series, like the Pushcart Prize. I’ve taught writing at the University of Mississippi since 2011 and love getting to know each one of my students.

A lot of the time I hear students say “I’m a lousy writer.” Who isn’t? Writing is not a natural talent; it is one you have to work at and develop as you grow and learn. My goal as a teacher is to help students “resee” their writing so that they can see how it improves and understand that all writing is about revision. When a student leaves my classroom, I want them to be able to look back on all they've accomplished and learned about themselves as writers and learners and be confident in those abilities as they move through college.
