~Charlie Griffin
Interviewer: How long have you been teaching and what did you do before that?
Mrs. Skiddle: I have been teaching since I was fresh out of college. This is my seventh year teaching. I got my undergraduate degree from Averett University and my Masters from the University of South Carolina ( during my first two years of teaching ).
Interviewer: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of teaching?
Mrs. Skiddle: My two favorite things about teaching are 1: The "light bulb" moments - when you have been working and working with a student and they finally get it. When you get to see that happen it's one of the greatest feelings. 2: The relationships fostered - I absolutely love working with my kiddos. I enjoy getting to know them and working with them. Every year is like making a bunch of mini new best friends. To be honest, my least favorite part of teaching is just not being able to get every student excited to learn.
Interviewer: Has there ever been a time in your career where you thought about quitting?
Mrs. Skiddle: Never, if I am being completely honest. I love what I do, even though some days are more tough than others. The rough days NEVER outweigh the good days.
Interviewer: What are some activities that you enjoy doing outside of work?
Mrs. Skiddle: Outside of work, I love being with my little girl, husband and two dogs. We love being outside, going to the beach, going hiking ... anything outside.
Interviewer: Why did you choose to become a math teacher, and would you ever consider teaching a different subject?
Mrs. Skiddle: I actually went to school and graduated with an elementary school teacher license, although I did minor in math. I did tons of interviews when I was graduating ... funny enough I randomly decided to interview for a middle school math position. ( God had a plan for me I did not see yet. ) After lots of praying, I ended up accepting the 6th grade math position, passed the Praxis and became licensed for middle school math and have never looked back!
Interviewer: What would you advise other people to do if they want to become a teacher?
Mrs. Skiddle: My advice to those who want to be a teacher is to figure out your "why?" Teaching is one of those professions I believe to be truly successful you honestly have to love what you do.
