An outbreak at the community level can cause significant social impacts. Unfortunately in communities undergoing outbreaks can experience growing stigma and fear against those who survive, treat or those who are associated with Marburg. During this time there will be strains on healthcare facilities, personnel, and supply chains. There can be unintentional increase in transmission in such healthcare settings additionally in certain cultures there may be burial rituals that can expose healthy people to Marburg. It could disrupt economic chains and can negatively impact tourism, sometimes permanently. Globally, Marburg has influenced international health policies and emergency response plans. The climate crisis can potentially affect the spread of the virus, potentially increasing human exposure if bat behavior is altered due climate change (WHO, 2023; CDC, 2024; Pigott et al., 2015; Singh et al., 2024).
