SLOTH TOUR
SLOTH TOUR
Located in the heart of La Palma, Puerto Jiménez, La Perica Sloth Garden is a charming family-run project that offers visitors an authentic encounter with the wildlife of the Osa Peninsula. The property, spanning two and a half hectares of lush land with remnants of ancient primary forest, serves as a sanctuary for a stable population of sloths, allowing guests to observe these fascinating creatures thriving in their natural habitat.
The standard visit is a three-hour guided tour that blends history, education, and nature exploration.
Journey through the Forest: The tour begins with an introduction to the history of the site. Guides lead visitors through a diverse landscape of gardens, cultivated crops, and the dense forest canopy.
Expert Spotting: Using professional equipment such as high-quality binoculars and telescopes, the guides help visitors spot sloths and other local fauna, while providing valuable insights into the flora and the specific tree species that support the forest's ecosystem.
Free-Roaming Wildlife: One of the highlights of La Perica is the emphasis on observation without interference, as the animals are seen living completely free within the protected reserve.
The experience concludes on a warm, personal note. Guests are invited to relax and enjoy a selection of homemade snacks that reflect local traditions. The menu features Grandma’s signature empanadas—prepared with cheese or beans for those who prefer a dairy-free option—served alongside a variety of fresh, seasonal fruits and natural juices.
