Let's talk about what happens when a countryhuman dies. In my universe, countries die by either being killed by another country, or collapsing due to rebellions, pressure or war. They die from pretty normal things, like falling off of cliffs, getting stabbed, losing a limb, exploding, the usual stuff! You might be thinking "But MapleCH, didn't a bunch of CHs in your art/stories live, even though they were missing eyes, got stabbed multiple times and did a whole bunch of stuff that should have killed them?!" (Okay, you're probably not thinking that). Well, CHs can heal rather quickly (also plot relevance)! Let me explain:
When a CH gets a major wound, they can carry that wound for years. But the wound closes very quickly, not allowing much blood to pour out. Basically, the CH carries the wound for as long as the historical event the wound is based off of affects them! (Or however long I please :). For instance, Prussia during the Austro-Prussian War lost part of his wing. He couldn't fly until the late 1800s, when his wing finally grew back.
Another thing to add, the children of countries with major wounds end up getting it passed onto them! If a CH loses and eye, their child will be blind in that eye. If they lose their wings, their child (if they had wings) would lose their wings! This only happens when the CH dies and passes off their kingdom to their child, who will gain the wounds as a downside. Minor wounds like scrapes and cuts will not be passed on. An example of this is with the Austrian Empire at the end of his reign. Prussia stabbed him in both of his eyes, leading to AE's child, Austria-Hungary, to become blind. Another instance is with the Russian Empire, who during the Russo-Japanese War, lost his eye. When the RSFSR came to overthrow him, he gained the lost eye.
Now let's talk about what happens after death.
When a CH dies, cracks start to appear all over their body. Pieces of them start to float away, but it isn't painful. At least, not physically. Finally, when they have disappeared, they will leave behind an object of significance to them. For instance, Prussia left behind a single feather. A-H left behind their eye patches.
This object contains their soul. In the afterlife, they become a ghost. As a ghost, they can go anywhere they want, but are always drawn to the object they left behind. They can also move that object, but should they try to move something else, it would be like moving a brick wall (but it has been done before ;). Alive countryhumans know none of this, only that mysterious objects keep appearing after someone dies.
If the object is ever destroyed, the dead countryhuman... comes back to life! They are restored to full health, with only a scar from what they died from. Nobody in this universe knows of this except for Poland and France (or at least, no other alive countries know about it)
If a country dies after they are revived, they forget about how they got revived in the first place. They can only remember it when they are alive. If there was a witness to a revival, however, the witness does not forget so long as they do not revive themself and then die.
If the object is only damaged slightly, the CH can interact with the alive world much more. For instance, every time they are near a living CH, that CH might feel a chill down their spine, or another presence in the room. They can also move small objects, like pens, or pebbles. Or... More can happen :)
Now for things you can do as a ghost! You can fly, you're immune to everything that can hurt you, you can pass through alive countryhumans (but no other objects/animals) and you can interact with other ghosts!
Finally, let's talk about what happens when the kingdom of a CH is passed on to their child. First of all, no matter what, the CH will die if that happens. It is a painless death, mostly just cracking into pieces and floating away. If a CH dies, their kingdom is passed on to their child, regardless of if the child wants the kingdom or not (there are some exceptions though). Unless they have no child, it is passed on. The child is able to coexist with the CH at the same time, but the CH has to still have control over their kingdom, if that makes sense.
