You do not have to sign up for anything to come see what we are about. Here is where you can find us this fall. Show up, say hello, and decide later.
Sunday, August 23, 3:00-5:00 PM at Maplebrook Pool. Swimming, stomp rockets, and hot dogs. Come as a family, dress to swim, no uniforms. Check in as a guest of the Cub Scouts, so there is nothing to arrange in advance. This is the easiest one to just drop into.
Friday, September 11, 4:30-6:00 PM at Maplebrook Elementary. We will have a Pack 513 table staffed by our Scouts and a few parents. Stop by, grab ice cream, and ask us anything. Five minutes or an hour, whatever you have.
Monday, September 14, 6:30-7:30 PM at the Maplebrook Elementary gym. Hot Wheels racing for the kids while parents get real answers on cost, time, and what a den actually does. Current families will be there, so you can hear it from someone other than us. Just come, no sign-up.
Can't make any of these? Tell us you are interested, and we will get in touch.
Cub Scouts is open to all kids in kindergarten through 5th grade — boys and girls. You can join at any grade level; you don't have to start in kindergarten. New Scouts are always welcome, any time of year.
Pack dues cover the fun stuff: your Scout's Pinewood Derby car, Rain Gutter Regatta boat, advancement patches and awards, the Blue & Gold Banquet, pack insurance, and event costs throughout the year.
Optional add-ons: Cub Scout Handbook ($17) and Scout Life magazine ($15/year). Heads up: the Scout Life subscription box is pre-checked during online registration — uncheck it if you don't want it.
Scouts can also pay pack dues from their scout account, funded through our fundraisers (see the Fundraising page).
Register online. Complete the BSA Online Application and pay the national/council fees ($180.25).
Pay Pack 513 dues ($55). Zelle to naperville513@gmail.com (put your Scout's name in the memo), or bring a check made out to "Pack 513" to any pack meeting and hand it to any member of the Pack leadership team.
Complete BSA Medical Forms A and B for your Scout and every family member who will attend events. Include immunization dates (a printout of the immunization record marked "up to date" works). Forms are required fresh each year — save a copy for next year. Also bring a printed copy of your insurance card (front and back). Turn everything in to any member of the Pack leadership team at a pack meeting.
Get the uniform. In 1st - 5th Grade? Buy the Class A uniform shirt at the Naperville Scout Shop (4S100 Rte 59, Naperville, IL 60563 · 630-231-3192) — or check the free uniform exchange bin at pack meetings. Details on the Uniforms & Gear page. Lions (K) are not required to be in Class A Uniforms.
Join the Pack 513 Facebook Group for updates and reminders.
Come to a meeting! Check the Calendar and just show up — we'll take it from there.
Questions? Email the Pack at naperville513@gmail.com.
How much time does Scouting take? About two hours a month: one pack meeting and one den meeting, each about an hour. Optional extras — hikes, campouts, service projects — are scheduled throughout the year. Life gets busy; Scouts can make up adventures they miss.
What's a den vs. the pack? The pack is everyone. A den is your Scout's small group of same-grade friends (Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, Arrow of Light). Dens meet monthly at times their den leader sets; see Dens & Leadership.
Do parents participate? Yes — Cub Scouts is parent-led. For Lions (K) and Tigers (1st), an adult partner attends with the Scout. All parents are encouraged to help with den meetings and pack events.
Can girls join? Absolutely. We're a family pack, and girls are full members in every den.
What if my child has never done Scouting before and is in 4th or 5th grade? No problem — Scouts can join at any grade and jump right in with their den. No prior ranks needed.
