MAPCA has hosted two Pride events in Monroeville (2025 and 2026), with the most recent pride tripling in size from the year before. This is our largest community event and also fundraiser. Sponsorships awarded to MAPCA for Pride sustain the mission over the course of the following year.
However important Pride is to MAPCA, we also strive to live out our vision statement and values every day, however we are called to do so, or wherever the need arises. In August 2025, we did an inclusive school supply distro at the Monroeville Public Library's Funfest. In November 2025, we partnered with Frontline Dignity for an info session on Rapid Reponse training. We hosted several meet-and-greets, general meetings, and happy hours to nurture friendships both new and old throughout 2025 and 2026. We partnered with the Gateway Popup Pantry and Backpack program and recruited volunteers to support the Pantry during months when Food Stamps were frozen and the need for food and volunteers to distribute that food was the highest.
Finally, we educate on issues and inform citizens on how they can engaged voters, residents, and neighbors. Most recently, we stood alongside Monroeville Public Library when they were ordered to take down the "love is love" display in the children's area. We rallied stakeholders in the community to attend the Library Board meeting and the Citizen Night Council Meeting. We spoke both as private citizens and as board members about the impact(s) of this issue and called on our elected officials to change course. At the meeting, we wore stickers and handed them out to those who wanted to show their support - and we handed out quarter sheet reminders of how to practice self care in the face of tension, conflict, and hateful rhetoric.
