The Garden is the center of the activity, On your time at Manu Endemic, this is where you will see our signature birds, often endemic, and that you are unlikely to see any better elsewhere on earth!
Around our covered dining room, boasting one of the most scenic view to enjoy our signature coffee, you will find three hummingbird feeding stations, producing up to 18 hummingbirds in a single day. These feeders are bustling with activity, often withh Golden-tailed Sapphire and Sparkling Violetear. Petience will be required to see our famous Peruvian Piedtail, Endemic, on the feeders between the kitchen and the trail entrance. This is a tiny , often shy, and warm-coloured hummingbird that you will recognise when it flashes its black and white tail, ressembling a barcode. The rufous-crested coquette perches often on the vervena next to the stairs leading to the dining room. It is best photographed from the first step down from the comedor, looking towards the house. You will probably find the secretive Pale-tailed Barbthroat with its orange gorget, at any feeding station or on the path to the photo hide. The almost-endemic white-browed hermit is easily encountered feeding on the small feeder above the table. Three large hermits, the green hermit, great-billed hermit and white-browed hermit, require more patience.
Going down to the garden, the black-backed tody flycatcher is a tiny black and yellow sprite, skulking in the thick bushes between the car park and the lodge, but also as far down as the roadside. Its Brrr Brrr Brrr song will immediately indicate its position, but taking a clean photo requires even more patience. The beautiful Buff-Tailed Sicklebill is found at the Heliconia Patch, where two comfortable chairs are waiting for you. Patience is needed, it will come to its favourite Lobster Claw flowers every hour approximately.
