I am very pleased and honoured to announce that my PhD thesis has received the Award of Excellence (Staatspreis für die besten Dissertationen).

This national award, funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research has been presented annually since 2008 and recognises the 40 best dissertations of the completed academic year, based on nominations by universities. The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, 10 December.

My dissertation, entitled “Gender-fair language in translation and post-editing: insights and best practices”, addresses the ongoing lack of non-binary representation in both Translation Studies and Machine Translation. The study investigates how different approaches to gender-fair language can be implemented in translation and post-editing from English into German.

I never expected my work to receive such recognition, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me throughout this project — especially my supervisors and the participants who generously shared their time and expertise.

I am excited to announce that I will be the chair of the "research - translators and users" track at the EAMT 2026 Conference to take place in Tilburg in June 2026!

After 6.5 years in Austria, I moved back to Italy! Now, I'm a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Padua.

I am officially a doctor and passed my PhD with distinction!

I have the pleasure to announce that I am now a co-opted member of the executive committee of the European Association for Machine Translation. 

I officially submitted my doctoral thesis "Gender-Fair Language in Translation and Post-Editing: Insights and Best Practices" supervised by Stefan Baumgarten and Dagmar Gromann. 

At EAMT, I will present our GeFMT Project. At the GITT Workshop, I will present the paper "Sparks of Fairness: Preliminary Evidence of Commercial Machine Translation as English-to-German Gender-Fair Dictionaries".

I will present the paper "Gender-Fair Audiovisual Translation: First Considerations on How to Address Non-Binary Genders" with my colleagues Bettina Hiebl and Zrinka Primorac Aberer.

I will present my paper "Gender-Fair Language in Machine Translation - Insights into Bias and Post-Editing Effort" with some results from my doctoral thesis.

MuC Best Paper Award for the paper “Es geht um Respekt, nicht um Technologie”: Erkenntnisse aus einem Interessensgruppen-übergreifenden Workshop zu genderfairer Sprache und Sprachtechnologie” (It’s about respect, not about technology. Findings from a cross-stakeholder workshop on genderfair language and language technology.).

The “Mensch und Computer” (MuC) conference, launched in 2001, is the largest conference series on human-computer interaction in Europe.
