What is communication and collaboration?
In this Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) communication and collaboration is a skill that learners need to have in for them to be productive in this ever changing digital world. Ian and Angelo (2020) have stated categorically that communication in the 21st century refers to the learners ability to organize their thoughts, information, findings and share ideas in a good manner with different groups of people in the digital and physical environment. On the other hand collaboration skill refers to the learners ability to work with a group to solve complex problems, and answer questions together to achieve a common goal while sharing responsibility between themselves in a task.(DEVIDED WE FALL WITH THE WORLD AROUND US BUT UNITED WE STAND AND TRANSFORM OUR WORLD FOR THE BEST).
Constructivist approach to equipping learner with communication and collaboration skills.
The world is ever changing the approach to learning and teaching must also change from traditional classroom to a classroom which embraces technology to cater equally for every learner. Furthermore research by Ian and Angelo (2020) proves for a teacher to maximize learners academic success and prepare them for the work environment in the 21st century, it is essential that the teacher uses problem-based learning which gives the learners an opportunity to develop their communication skills in generating ideas on how to solve complex issues. In addition, project-based learning can also enhance collaboration in a classroom as a CAT teacher can use the jigsaw method of group work to bring innovation out of the learners, by deviding the class into groups where each group is required to create a powerpoint slide addressing the different way to troubleshoot a computer.
After preparing the slide they can choose who will present it to the class, this way everyone has to contribute to the group as they are all assigned to a specific role which they must show creativity in. Finally a scientific inquiry learning and group work approach can also be used to improve learners collaborative and communication skills.
