LOGIC BOARD 1 - LB1
LOGIC BOARD 1 - LB1
Breakout board and supporting circuits for the ESP32-S3
The ESP32 requires robust power filtering at 5V & 3V3, analog input filters to stabalise the ADC, USB-C for programming and an independent watchdog circuit for unattended installations. It also incorporates two LED indicators and a physical reset button.
LB1 can be used as the main logic board for any application requiring an advanced multicore microcontroller with WIFI & Bluetooth.
The physical dimensions have been kept small to limit physical interference with surrounding components. All SMD parts are on one side for ease of manufacture except the ESP32 module. The ESP32 module being on the back side allows for ease of soldering and flexibility e.g. a choice of modules with integrated / external antennas or large flash. USB-C allows for easy programming. A large amount of SMD ceramic capacitors satisfies the ESP32 high instantaneous power requirements. Each ADC input has a 100nF capacitor added by default, therefore ADC pins shouldn't be used for digital unless the capacitor is removed. A green and red led are present with board through-holes for backside indication.
Usage Notes: To untilise the logic watchdog, the solder bridge needs to be shorted. If the watchdog is not patted at least once every 1.6S, the ESP32 will be rebooted. It's important to consider this during boot sequences and to ensure WIFI or remote connections not being available are not conditions for the watchdog else a reboot loop is possible.Â
It is also noted that when programming, the USB-C serial connection to the ESP32 will only work in one orientation (although USB-C is symmetrical). Therefore, if the USB to serial device cannot communicate to the ESP32-S3, unplug and rotate the USB-C cable.
