Greenery, fresh air, and nature’s lively ambiance- things one will encounter in this land of passion, excellence, and nobility of virtue. Cascading waters running through the fields, and gentle winds whistling a harmonious melody. With a touch of nostalgia and a sparkle of passion, let us dive deeper into the historical adventures of our beloved alma mater!
Dating back in the 19’s, the Americans established an agricultural school here in Bukidnon, Philippines. It went on under the name of “Mailag Agricultural School” and offered four grades under the elementary agricultural curriculum. Years later, in 1918, as proclaimed in E.O. No. 59 in December 18, the name was changed to “Bukidnon Agricultural School” and offered the last three grades in the same curriculum. Three years after, in 1921, the school campus was transferred to Managok, Malaybalay City, where in 1923 it was renamed as “Bukidnon Rural High School” under Proclamation No. 33 and produced the first batch of secondary students in 1927.
A year later, in 1928, it was changed to “Bukidnon Agricultural High School” by virtue of R.A. No. 3377, and made the Agriculture Curriculum exclusive for male students only. Commonwealth Act No. 313 gave it a new name, yet again, into “Bukidnon National Agricultural School”, where the secondary homemaking curriculum was then offered to female students as well. In fact, as the historic records show, Ms. Esmeralda Collado was the first ever female student to enroll in the school. However, when World War II came in 1943 until 1945, the school was made to close.
The war was a hard time not only for the Philippines but for many other countries as well. But for sure, our country did carry a lot of impacts and after-effects posed by the war but eventually our ancestors pushed through and the war ended back in 1945. A year after that, on July 12 of 1946, it was reopened but also relocated to Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon due to the conditions brought about by the war that just ended. After seven years, on June 21, 1952, the President Quirino signed R.A. 807 that converted the school, yet again, into Mindanao Agricultural College (MAC).
Then finally, on June 19, 1965, 13 years after the establishment of MAC, by virtue of R.A. 4498, the school was renamed to the very name it stands and carries today-
The school that strives for Academic Excellence and Noble Virtues;
For quality research and globally competent students;
The Academic Paradise of the South:
“Central Mindanao University”.
In the same year of 1965, the high school offered a general academic curriculum with BOR No.2, s. 1965. It was implemented from 1968 until 1970. However, for the A.Y. 1970-1971, both vocational and general academic curriculum were implemented. More than a decade after this, in 1987, under R.A. 6655, it was quite anticipated for the school to be turned over to the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports (present-day Department of Education). However, a request to maintain a science high school in the university was eventually approved by the DECS and only the Elementary Laboratory department was turned over.
In the same year, the Vocational Secondary Curriculum was phased out due to lacking support services, farm mechanics, and facilities. Additionally, they also found out that majority of the students who enrolled in the Vocational Agriculture Curriculum did not proceed to enroll in the College of Agriculture after high school graduation and thus, only the Science Curriculum was maintained and implemented up until today.
Also, during this time, the enrollment to the high school as based on a quota to maintain quality grades and performance. In 1989, the high school tied up with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to be given information and assistance in promoting science education and the science curriculum. In 1993, BOR Resolution No. 66 s. 1993 approved the recommencement of the General Secondary Academic Curriculum in the high school, resulting in two curricula: The Science and the General Secondary Academic Curricula. From June 2004 until March 2008, the high school had another two curricular offerings: The Science Curriculum and the New Secondary Education Curriculum (NSEC), however they implemented a separate set of honor students from each curriculum, as mandated in DepEd Order No. 41 s. 2004. But then from June 2008 to March 2013, the school had once again administrated on a pure science curriculum. On June 13, with the approval of the R.A. 10533 – Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, CMULHS implemented the K-12 curriculum.
And then finally, with its ineradicably rich history and countless triumphant endeavors, it now stands with all its glory and honor, serving countless students and offering quality education for a globally sustainable development, globally competent students, and most of all, academic excellence through hard work and noble virtues.
Our beloved school,
Our Alma Mater,
