Our first-ever workshop was held in Nairobi on December 30, 2024, focusing on the fundamentals of budgeting. This interactive session aimed to empower participants with essential financial management skills and tools.
The workshop agenda included a detailed introduction to budgeting, providing background context to establish its importance in personal and professional financial planning. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises that illustrated practical budgeting scenarios and explored best practices for effective bookkeeping.
To enhance the learning experience, we introduced an online budgeting spreadsheet and an expenditure tracker tailored for this workshop. These tools, available in the Tools section of this site, are designed to be user-friendly and versatile. Participants can make a copy of these spreadsheets to personalize and utilize them for practice or integrate them into their daily financial routines.
This inaugural workshop marked a significant step in our journey to promote financial literacy and support individuals in achieving their financial goals.
Our second workshop delved into the critical topic of savings, offering participants practical insights and actionable strategies to build and maintain financial security. A central theme of the workshop was understanding the "why" behind savings—its role in creating a safety net, achieving long-term goals, and fostering financial independence. Participants explored the importance of cultivating a savings habit, even in small increments, and how this practice can lead to significant impacts over time.
To bring these concepts to life, we shared contextualized examples tailored to the everyday lives of Mama Mbogas. Through relatable scenarios, we demonstrated how these women could seamlessly incorporate savings tactics into their daily routines, such as setting aside small portions of their earnings or using tools to track and grow their funds.
The workshop combined theory with practical tools and tips, equipping attendees with the knowledge and confidence to start or enhance their savings journey. It was a powerful reminder that savings, no matter how modest, can serve as a foundation for greater financial empowerment.
