Music was an important part of my childhood. I experimented with various instruments including the guitar, clarinet, Violin, Piano, Saxophone and the bass guitar. In my third grade, I chose the upright bass and have played it ever since. I am not quite sure why I picked the Bass, but it was probably big & imposing and also had a deep and imposing baritone sound. I was in Chambers and also participated in various competitions on Long Island. I won most of the competitions which kept me going. I played at the Long Island String festival in 2016 and 2017 in the first chair position. I completed level 6 for NY state (NYSSMA level 6) in 2018. Below are some youtube videos of my performances. I have also played the Saxophone now and then because I enjoyed the feel of it.
One time in the summer of 2017, while in 7th grade, I gathered enough confidence to play my Sax in Washington Sq Park in NYC. People and several kids stopped by, some donated money.
I would visit often. My mom would encourage me to give a few dollars (in my cap) to the poor.
