Rough rendering without floor treatment
Nothing like a Dyke's Lumber Trip! To make the Owens' House columns, we had to cart 12 8' pieces of lumber from Brooklyn, on the subway, and into the Financial District of Lower Manhattan where our theatre was located.
Brown sponge stipple over base grout color
Homasote Brick painted with 2 tones of orange
Bricks were then stapled on top of "grout" platform facing
I ended up pairing down some of the color choices to have a more concise treatment
Base layer of floor treatment
In order to mimic the 3D movement and texture of grass, we used feather dusters dipped in thinned down paint, patted on a cloth, and lightly hit the floor to create blades in different patterns
We did 2 different colors of texture in 3 layers
Both houses also received individual paint treatments on the interior platforms
Walls, porch posts, and doors were made to look lived in and slightly dirtied. I did not want the house to look broken down, but rather that the people who live there do not have the money to upkeep it
Walls received washes of black paint and sandpaper to make the siding look weathered and wind-wiped. Porch received additional dirtying to look like dirt & grass stains
Fence also received distressing to show wear of time & use
