Design Challenge

The Challenge

Create a solution (i.e. build a prototype) to solve an actual problem you or your team have.

  • Feel free to come up with an idea for school, your classroom, life in general, or the world. If you want to create something fun(think Rube Goldberg), then go right ahead.

The goal is to challenge your thinking and stretch your abilities in a fun and safe environment.

If you need an idea, then do this one!

Or make an Interactive Thingamajig!

Or create a lever that connects two circuits in a way similar to the Frankenstein switch.

Or make an interactive EXIT TICKET

Or make a COLLABORATIVE MAZE

Help make a Wall Design LIKE THIS

Or just DO SOMETHING with the Makey Makey!

Create a prototype that would enhance the life of someone else

Ideas for Inspiration

The Challenge Option 2

This comes from the Learning Creative Community MOOC taking place now.

"This week we invite you to explore Scratch by making a project about something or someone you care about. For example, it can be an animation about one of your favorite hobbies, books, or places, a video game featuring your pet, or a greeting card for someone you love!

When you feel ready, share your project and your reflections: What motivated you in creating your project? Can you describe a moment of joy or frustration? What helped you persist in face of challenges?"

Your challenge will be to implement the Makey Makey with your ideas.

Group Size

If you want to work solo like a red cup, then be my guest.

If you want to work with a partner, then high five and get to it.

If you want to work in a larger group, then hold hands, sing Kumbaya, and get working.

Time Frame

60-75 minutes depending on how the day has gone up to this point!

Materials

  • Your own Makey Makey
  • A computer
  • Cardboard
  • Foil
  • Conductive Tape
  • Any other materials available. This will vary based on location.
  • Be CREATIVE!

Step 1: Discuss Ideas

Share out ideas. Make sure everyone has their voice heard. Share the air! Equity of voice is important for buy-in of this project!

Step 2: Sketch It

Draw out your plans. Make sure everyone is on the same page and understand what needs to be done. Who is going to do what? Make a plan!

If possible, then please share with instructor.

Step 3: Prototype

Make it happen! Time is a wasting and you need to get making. Hop to it!

Step 4: Prepare for Demo or Die

Before time runs out be thinking about how you will present. Who is speaking? Who is showcasing? Do you have what you need to share so others understand what it is you are trying to make?

Step 5: Load Project to Flipgrid

Share your prototype with world! Make a short video about your project to help inspire others.
