The Purpose

As schools work to implement makerspaces in their schools they need a basic starting point. We cannot expect kids to go from a system where they must ask permission for everything to a culture of openness that gives them complete freedom. A makerspace is a space that allows students to prototype, tinker, experiment, and design the ideas in their heads. Until that culture is created there must be some guidance to help them get their gears turning.

These are not task cards per se. These are designed to help schools create themes or topics that can rotate monthly/weekly/daily to provide new opportunities of learning. As we state in 212 STEAM Labs “We don’t know what we don’t know”. These are not intended to be instructions or scripted learning or giving for assessment measures. These are designed as food for thought for educators and students to have a starting point in their exploration of the world around them.
