Spotlight on History 365
Our mission is to honor Black history as a living, year‑round foundation—not a footnote. While the Main Line’s grand estates are well documented, the stories of the Black families who built community, culture, and continuity within those towns are too often overlooked. From the Great Migration to the creation of “villages within villages,” their contributions shaped Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Wayne, and beyond.
We gather to preserve these stories—both celebrated and unsung—because knowing where we come from illuminates who we are and where we are going.
Our Historic Venue: The RTCA
This year’s gathering takes place at the Radnor Township Civic Association (RTCA), founded in 1932 as a safe, self‑determined space for the Black community during the Jim Crow era. As the only remaining Black‑owned secular community center on the Main Line between Ardmore and Coatesville, the RTCA stands as a testament to resilience and community pride. For generations, it served as the social hub for Second Baptist Church and St. John’s A.M.E., hosting weddings, celebrations, and revival meetings.
