The benefits of incorporating futsal into our winter programming is maximizing touches on the ball, aiding in player development and ball skills. Throughout the winter, coaches can run futsal sessions once a week in a gymnasium. Competitions throughout the winter can include a weekend futsal league and tournaments.

Why is futsal beneficial to players?

Portland Youth Futsal League

The Portland Youth Futsal League is a collaborative project between PAYSA, Maine Lightning Soccer Club, and the City of Portland. Our goal is to offer a lower cost, competitive model that assists in the development of young soccer players in our city, and that expands our futsal footprint in Portland. This program offers a blend of foot skills sessions and weekend futsal league play for youth ages 5-14. Weekly foot skills clinics are run by Maine Lightning staff and take place at Amanda C. Rowe School and Talbot Community School, with an emphasis placed on skill development through maximization of touches on the ball.

High School Futsal Clinic

Maine Lightning Soccer Club is offering a weekend futsal clinic is for high school players. This is an opportunity for players to further develop their foot skills, ball control, and confidence with the ball, as they learn one of the most exciting and fastest growing indoor games in the world. This clinic includes on-court foot skills and full-sided and competitive games.
