Maine Lightning is offering player development programs that maximize touches on the ball, build confidence on the ball, and that promote creativity and soccer IQ. We have a proven staff of high school coaches & college coaches from all over Southern Maine who are coaching to give back to our communities and to the game we love.
Sparks Skills Builders
Sparks Skills Builders is our foot skills program for ages 6-7. Trainings are held once a week for one hour at The Point in South Portland. There is an additional 8th makeup week or fun scrimmage session built in. The focus of this program is to foster player confidence in ball handling and personal foot skills to increase a player's impact on the game. The program will follow a one-ball-to-one-player model while also adding in a small amount of team-related play. Come join us for a first taste of premier level coaching and player growth!
Chargers Academy
Chargers Academy is our foot skills program for ages 8-9. Trainings are held once a week for one hour and 15 minutes at The Point in South Portland. Trainings are built around continued individual skill improvement with a larger focus on integration with team-based ideas and systems.
Goalkeeper Academy
Goalkeeper Academy is our goalkeeper development program for ages 9-19. We hold consecutive sessions throughout the year. Trainings are held once a week for one hour, and work on developing the athleticism, decision making, leadership, and the confidence of each goalkeeper. Players are grouped appropriately by age and experience. Sessions are led by experienced coaches with extensive experience coaching and playing goalkeeper. Our sessions are held in winter and spring.
Training sessions focus on the following essential areas:
Catching, blocking, tipping, punching, parrying
DistributionÂ
Communicating with defenders
Controlling the box
Collapse diving, extension diving
Closing down space, cutting down your angles
Intercepting crosses
Footwork, footwork, footwork
1v1s, breakaways, influencing the attacking player(s)
Increasing the odds of saving a penalty kick
High School Futsal Clinic
High School Futsal Clinics are weekend futsal clinic is for high school players. This is an opportunity for players to further develop their skills, ball control, and confidence with the ball, as they learn one of the most exciting and fastest growing indoor games in the world. This clinic includes on-court foot skills and full-sided and competitive games.
