ESC in Blitz is an open tournament, where players from all countries are welcome to participate.
9 rounds Swiss system.
8 minutes kiremake.
ESC (European Shogi Championship)
ESC is a tournament where only players from a European country can participate.
5 rounds predetermined knock-out system.
45 minutes + 40 seconds byo-yomi.
The top 32 rated players with established rating that have completed there personal registration at 22.00 on July 15th start in the ESC 2009. If there are not 32 players with established rating registered, the ESC is completed with players with provisional rating. If there are not 32 players with either established or provisional rating registered the ESC is completed with unrated players.
An ESC participant that loses during any of the first 3 rounds, drops to the WOSC (keeping the points scored in the ESC).
All players starting in ESC will also participate in the WOSC from during round 6-9 (keeping the points scored in the ESC).
Prizes are given to places 1 to 3.

WOSC is a open tournament, where players from all countries are welcome to participate.
9 rounds Swiss system .
45 minutes + 40 seconds byo-yomi.
Prizes are given to places 1 to 3.
In addition, best female player and best player under 18 will also receive a prize.
