Magnum Association Events

As well as cruising events, we have a number of social activities such as the Winter Dinner, Christmas BBQ and Easter at the Lakes (which includes the Magnum Cup race). On the interactive Google Calendar below, scroll through the months to see future events (click on each event for full details) ... and if you use Google Calendar yourself then use the + button on the bottom right to add the MYA Calendar to yours. Below the interactive Calendar there is also a static calendar that might be easier to view (but might not be updated regularly).

Please contact the President or a Committee member to suggest other events to add to our calendar. We would really like to hear from members right across Australia. To view a list of some of our past events, see the Calendar Archive.

Goulburn River Cruise - October 26, 2019

Date to be confirmed. ! This is a really easy and enjoyable event. Leave that mast at home and be amazed at getting the boat into the water within 15 minutes of arriving at pretty Lake Nagambie (1.5 hours north of Melbourne). We will motor up the beautiful Goulburn River to the Tahbilk Winery for lunch and a taste of some of their wines. After that we will motor another couple of miles to Mitchelton Winery and then find a nice river bank site for a campfire and BBQ (bring suitable utensils). On Sunday, lunch back at Tahbilk or somewhere nice on the river and then a leisurely trip back to the ramp. A great (freshwater) weekend. Contact: John Weatherley

Queenscliff Music Festival - November 22, 2019

Last year we had heaps of Magnums and great weather at this event. To save on ticket costs get an "Early Bird Weekend Pass" or you can just get Friday and Saturday night tickets and go for a sail during the day. Launch at Martha Cove and sail across to the excellent marina at Queenscliff. Buy tickets for the Music Festival or just enjoy the free performances at the pubs and other venues in this beautiful township. A trip on the Blues Train is worth a day ticket to the festival though. Make it a long weekend by taking Friday and/or Monday off! IMPORTANT: Book a berth early (like now) at the marina or you might miss out! Contact: John Weatherley.

Magnum Committee Meeting - October 31, 2019

New Years Eve on Sydney Harbour - December 31, 2019

We are seeking interest in joining a cruise in Sydney taking in NYE on the harbour. Cath and Gene have done this a number of times in the past and have had a fantastic time. We may also take in Pittwater and the Hawkesbury – great locations at that time of year. Let me know if you are interested. Contact: Gene Hodgkinson

We will meet on the at Picnic Arm (off Duck Arm) on Saturday afternoon. The entertainment will include too much Champagne on Saturday night followed by an erratic race on Sunday (to be run by the GLYC - clockwise around Raymond Island finishing at the Yacht Club). Refuge Cove Cruise - ? 2020

No date yet! The weather once again prevented this cruise in 2018 so we are all looking forward to a great trip to, arguably, the most beautiful part of the Australian coastline. We have allocated a backup weekend in case the first weekend is blown out. Launch at Port Welshpool and sail down the protected eastern shores of Wilsons Promontory to the spectacular anchorage in Refuge Cove. Some people might make a long weekend of it and return on Monday. In case the wind happens to be from the east and not too strong, we will go to Tin Mine Cove in Corner Inlet. Winter Dinner - August 16, 2020

This event is a great way to shrug off the Winter blues and talk about past or future sailing. Venue to be advised! Contact: Saxil Tuxen

Myall Lakes Cruise - September 12, 2020

Goulburn River Winery Cruise - October 30, 2020

This is a really easy and enjoyable event. Leave that mast at home and be amazed at getting the boat into the water within 15 minutes of arriving at pretty Lake Nagambie (1.5 hours north of Melbourne). We will motor up the beautiful Goulburn River to the T ahbilk Winery for lunch and maybe a taste of some of their wines. After that we will motor another couple of miles to Mitchelton Winery for an evening BBQ. On Sunday , lunch at Mitchelton and then a leisurely trip back to the ramp. A great (freshwater) weekend. Westernport Cruise - November 15, 2020

Westernport Bay is an underrated cruising area. Launch at Hastings public ramp on Friday evening (or Saturday morning if you don't mind fighting with lots of fishing boats). Maybe an overnight at Sandy Point and then look at the many other options for Sunday night. If the tides are good we could do a circumnavigation of Phillip Island or French Island. The Newhaven Marina may be the focal point . Contact: Saxil Tuxen

Whitsundays Cruise - Sept / Oct, 2021

If you haven't taken your boat to the Whitsundays ... what are you waiting for? It's not that long before we hit the road so it's time to start those jobs: checking or replacing trailer bearings and tyres, car and boat servicing etc. And a word of advice: Completely empty your boat and only put back light things like sails. All the heavy stuff like anchors, chain, dinghy and outboard etc. etc. should go in the car. Get rid of all the stuff you have accumulated in the boat and completely empty the fuel and water tanks. Don't take any food or booze at all. It's the same price in Qld. Also, if you are coming from Victoria, you should seriously consider the coast route instead of the inland. Contact: John Weatherley
