What are the expectations before, during, and after the trip?
Before the trip, participants are expected to:
participate in language classes for two semester in-person or online
develop intermediate level in speaking and listening Tagalog
get fully vaccinated with COVID
obtain passport to travel overseas
attend a 2-day Pre-departure Orientation and Workshop in May 2023. One day will be online and one day will be In-Person at NIU
During the trip, participants are expected to:
attend daily language and cultural activities for two months in-country
participate fully in all activities as required by the project for 8 weeks
write and create daily journal and online blog/vlog
After the trip, participants are expected to:
write one module based on the overseas experience related to culture, history, politics, geography, literature, etc. to enhance their existing courses.
write one cultural module based on the overseas experience
attend a 2 two-day follow-on events (one online and one in-person) after the overseas experience to present modules and digital stories
allow finalized modules and digital stories to be placed on the project website
American Students who are currently in a Tagalog course at NIU or those who are willing to apply can participate in a free online Tagalog class via ZOOM on the following days during the Fall 2022 Semester and Spring 2023 Semester. Email rgallocrail@niu.edu to sign up.
