Perspective 2: Victims of human trafficking

Because human trafficking is such a big business, there is a lot of demand for the commodity of humans on the black market. That is why there are millions of people involved in human trafficking each year. Thus, another perspective that is significant is the victim’s; They are someone who has gone through all the terrible and cruel events. As they have endured the abuse involved in human trafficking, they have first hand experience and can tell many true stories from trafficking. The victim believes that human trafficking is not justifiable because of its cruel methods and the effects that can come after escaping the system. There are many books, films, stories about the victims of human trafficking including some that I have read; they all portray trafficking to be this cruel and immoral business.

Human trafficking has been known for harsh methods to transport people in order to make a profit. “According to the U.S. Department of State, because traffickers objectify victims and use coercive tactics, victims often have obscured views of power, visibility, and dignity.”(Utley) This indicates the terrible environment over trafficking victims face. Also, this connects to the human rights activist's idea as it shows the violation of human rights. The traffickers maintain this business at the cost of their transgression of moral boundaries. Therefore, trafficking must be stopped because of the psychological and physical abuse that is involved in it.

Furthermore, even when victims have ‘escaped’ the system “Many victims have reported post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) once out of the life and on a journey toward recovery, largely attributed to the vast array of trauma endured at the hands of offenders – both buyers and sellers.”(Utley) This indicates the horrible effects trafficking has on victims even after they have escaped it. Thus, it shows how trafficking is not justifiable as it can have many devastating effects on the victims even after the incident.

This graphic shows how human trafficking is such a prevalent problem in our world today.
