Perspective 1: Human Rights Advocate

One perspective that is prominent in the debate of whether human trafficking is justifiable or not is the human rights advocate/activist’s. There are many human rights activists that are trying to find a better solution to human trafficking; for example, organisations such as the United Nations or the International Labor Organisation. Because human trafficking is a market that involves the violation of human rights, many activists think that this business is not justifiable.

This cartoon, as shown above, has an accurate representation on the reality of human rights in our world; Although organisations such as the U.N confirm everybody has human rights, it is not a universal thing that everyone can obtain easily.

Ewelina U. Ochab, a human rights activist.

“A prime example is the case of 3,200 Yazidi women and girls who were abducted in Sinjar in August 2014. These women and girls were trafficked to Syria where they were subjected to forced conversion, forced marriage, rape and sexual abuse, forced abortions, physical and mental abuse, forced labor and much more. The case of the Yazidi women abducted from Sinjar is an extreme case of human trafficking, however, human trafficking is not just confined to war-ridden or failed states. No country is immune to human trafficking. The crime is also committed right under our noses, and by men and women in suits."

These actions done by traffickers are considered immoral and heartless. This shows how cruel the treatment of trafficked victims are. Thus, a human rights activist like Ewelina believes that all must be done to try to prevent more abuse to happen to more people around the world. "This demand for human trafficking is most common in western and southern Europe (66%), central and south-eastern Europe (65%), followed by East Asia and Pacific (61%) and South America (57%)."(Ewelina U. Ochab) Because it’s such a widespread epidemic, she believes that we need to stop the demand for trafficking. Thus, think of how many humans in the world are being trafficked right now? Therefore, if we stop the demand the supply will stop as well and the issue will be solved.
