We will end our tour by seeing where it all ended at Appomattox Courthouse. This is where the Confederate Army surrendered to the Union Army on April 9, 1865.

After abandoning Petersburg and Richmond, General Lee began a dash west in an attempt to meet up with General Joseph Johnston in North Carolina. However, General Grant caught up with Lee first near the small town of Farmville on April 6th, 1865. This would end up being the last major battle between the two great armies.
