While many of my clients are neurodiverse (diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Autism, and/or Learning Disabilities), I work with anyone who wants to improve their executive functioning or academic skills! I find my style of coaching is most effective with clients from high school age and up. However, if you are (or have) a mature middle school student looking to bolster executive skills before starting high school, I'm open to meeting with you as well! Generally, I want to ensure that coaching is a good fit, that my clients are comfortable working with me, and that they are ready to problem-solve, make changes, and try out new strategies to meet their goals.
I meet with clients in my home office, virtually, and in the local library based on personal preference.
INITIAL COACHING SESSION(S):
In our first coaching session after the initial inquiry call, it is important for me to fully understand my client's current reality and what they would like to change. Setting this foundation typically fills our first full (60 min) session, and can sometimes fill two full sessions. Often clients arrive with immediate and pressing concerns and, trust me, we will get to the problem solving! However, it truly won't benefit anyone for us to start trying to build a new house on top of an unknown and unsteady foundation. So I'll make sure we have a complete understanding of the current state of affairs before we get to the (fun) taking action part!
When I'm coaching a middle or high school student, the initial coaching session may include the parent/s and child. I understand the benefits of hearing everyone's views on what the challenges may be and what changes they may be seeking. However, it will ultimately be up to the student to decide what they would like to work on during coaching.
REGULAR COACHING SESSIONS:
Regular coaching sessions are 60 minutes once a week with myself and the client. If we agree that it would be helpful, we can change our meeting's frequency to space out our sessions and allow for more time between each session. Between sessions, I encourage short weekly checkins via text, email, or brief phone call - whatever form works for each client.
Examples of topics we might cover in coaching:
Goal setting
Planning and organizing
Prioritization
Time management and procrastination
Focus
Perseverance
Impulse control
Motivation
Follow-through and task completion
Academic skills development (study skills, note taking skills, test taking skills, and reading comprehension techniques)
....AND MORE!
I also support clients by communicating, coordinating, and/or attending meetings with the other professionals in their circle (teachers, counselors, etc.), if appropriate.
I charge per coaching session, but short check ins, and brief communications with parents, teachers, or other specialists to coordinate a client's support efforts, are included as part of the coaching process. Longer engagements, such as attendance at a meeting or substantial communication with outside professionals, will be charged by an hourly rate.
