I am an educator committed to the mission of helping clients develop the academic, advocacy and professional skills they need to succeed in school, work, and life. My passion is supporting and walking alongside my clients as they develop the skills, competencies, and confidence they need to meet their personal, employment, and academic goals.
My professional career includes serving as a 7th grade exceptional education and English teacher in West Philadelphia before transitioning to higher education disability services through my work at the Disability Resource Center at Salisbury University and the Office of Accessibility Resources at Randolph-Macon College. I now have the privilege of serving as the Program Coordinator for Professional Development at the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Education at Randolph-Macon College outside of Richmond, Virginia. I'm also currently an adjunct professor at Landmark College in Vermont for their certificate program in Learning Differences and Neurodiversity.
After graduating with my bachelor's degree from Elon University (B.A), I completed my master's degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Education (M.S) with my research focusing on K-12 exceptional education services in low-income communities. I went on to complete my doctorate at Salisbury University in Contemporary Curriculum Theory and Instruction: Literacy. My doctoral research focused on literacy and disability identity with my dissertation entitled, "Literacy Identity and Experiences of College Students Diagnosed with Reading Disabilities." I have earned several certifications including teaching credentials in Secondary English and Special Education, ADA (American's with Disabilities Act) Coordinator Training Certification through the University of Missouri, and ACC (Associate Certified Coach) credential through the International Coaching Federation.
Professionally, I have served on the AHEAD Research Review Panel and on the Executive Board for the local AHEAD chapter in Virginia where I continue to serve as a peer mentor for other disability services professionals. I also sit on the board of the International Collegiate Disability Honors Society (Delta Alpha Pi) and assist as an Advisor Mentor for other chapter advisors.
In my free time I enjoy reading, baking, cheering on my favorite football team (the Philadelphia EAGLES) and spending time outside with my husband, our two dachshunds (Ellie and Sophie), and our two cats (Flynn and Indy).
