OCAS (OPTICA and SPIE Student Chapter at the University Jaume I of Castelló) was established in 2014, driven by the motivation of PhD students for outreach in optics. Over the past years, OCAS has been involved in numerous activities, including “Conecta con la Ciencia”, inspiring schools and high school students to explore science. The participation in scientific fairs such as “Firujiciencia” and “Science GTS”, along with internal events like “The International Day of Light”, or seminars with international speakers. Furthermore, OCAS organized the OSA IONS congress in 2015 in the city of Castellón de la Plana.
Photonets and OCAS Student Chapters have experience organizing scientific outreach events. The most recent one, “A la llum de València'' held in Valencia in February 2023, was organized in collaboration with three student chapters: Physics League from Valladolid, Photonets from Valencia, and OCAS from Castellón. A two day event, including an interactive show and a scientific fair, in which young and adult attendees experienced and learnt about light and photonics.
