Brent Ditzler

This is a picture of my team (I'm second from the right) at RoboCup2019 with our trophy for the Onstage Advanced Division. I did a lot on the wiring and programming work for two of our four robots, which were the moving parts of our performance which also included a facial recognition robot and a piano playing robot.

Hi, my name is Brent Ditzler and I’m a chemical engineering major at WPI. I’m from a relatively small town in south central Pennsylvania called Chambersburg. I’m the youngest child in my family, only having an older sister who also happens to be in STEM. My red hair does happen to come from Irish decent, but no one in my family has had red hair since five generations back on my mom’s side and six on my dad’s. Also, I’m currently the WPI Club Soccer President for the men’s team, affiliated with Alpha Tau Omega, and work in the Cote Research Lab.

I really enjoy spending time with my friends, whether that be doing something completely spontaneous and out of the blue or just doing work around them. I also really enjoy playing soccer, working out, and watching premier league soccer. I’m a huge Manchester United fan and have been to London, England in high school where I toured several Premier League stadiums and watched two Premier League matches and one Championship match (the division below the Premier League).

I am an extroverted person that is optimistic about almost everything. I try to find the best and look for what good can come out of something bad. I also really like to hear everyone’s opinion whilst in groups and consider all sides of arguments before making decisions; I’m a listen first type. While I tend to take the lead on most projects, I find that I am more of a supportive leader and always try to be upbeat rather than a demanding one while still keeping ahead on deadlines. These things are some of my aspects that I feel could really be useful to any project work and have been in past groups! Something else pretty cool is that I have already been to Australia before. I went the summer before my freshman year at WPI for the RoboCup Junior International Competition in Sydney with a group from my high school representing USA in the OnStage Advanced division where we placed 3rd!
