Antenna system is the key to achieve better results in our hobby. Because of this reason, antenna theory turns in one of my main fields of interest. Despite a fact, that currently i haven't better place and possibilty to do all antennas from my dreams i will continue to dream about them... Do you feel the same ? :) There is a lot of things to be learned and a lot of things to be done ... and we have to start from somewhere.
My favorite handbook about antennas is written long time ago from Karl Rothammel (1914 – 1987). Great work !
Another great author L.B. Cebik - W4RNL (1939-2008).
Many things can be found also here: Antenna links
Few words about "EH antenna". In fact this is not an antenna :), so what to say ... just "eh...". If this is antenna - than this is the worst antenna on the earth. You do not need to loose your time with it, because i loose a lot of my time to read the theory and build such "antenna". Now nobody can convince me that "EH" is antenna. It is just "EH!" ... The naked truth is well exposed here: http://www.w8ji.com/e-h_antenna.htm , i totally agree with every single word of W8JI. I saw many peoples who lost lot of time and resources in their attempts to force some stuff to radiate, thinking they make so called EH antennas. At some point most of them realize that this is just "EH! wasted time" and that is really, REALLY not an antenna. I enjoy this much http://www.qsl.net/iz7ath/web/02_brew/18_eh/index.htm , BRAVO!, TU Talino!
About antenna modeling softwares, MMANA GAL is good software, but only for learning and playing. I preffer 4NEC2, EZNEC is better but not free, for more realistic results pay attention of input parameters, in short - manuals should be read carefully.
QRV on 6m with 5el. EF0605c, designed by YU7EF. There is no space for bigger antenna here, but i am happy to work even through MS with this one. Without any mechanical tuning the return loss is 30dB at 50.200MHz R.L.=30dB=VSWR 1:1.06 => when Pf = 100W, Preflected = 100 mW! The pattern is like one predicted, refering to the reception of LZ2CM/B. Element lenghts are corrected slightly with 4NEC2x, because I have few reasons to use 10mm+8mm for the elements. Balun 1:1 is used, made of ANDREW CNT-300 coaxial.
Good method to install HF wire antennas in densely populated urban environment is to use firstly thin rope with attached small plastic bag, filled with water in one end. By this way there is no risk and you can safely trace the desired installation of the antenna.
