Hello, and thanks for visiting my site! My name is Lyndsey Peterson, and I’m a teacher and freelance theater director based in Frederick, MD. I relocated from Chalfont, PA in 2016 to teach English for Frederick County Public Schools. After 2 years of assistant directing and choreographing for the Brunswick High School theater program, I was asked by my principal to teach the theater classes and run the school's drama club. This experience has shaped my career path and has reignited a joy for theater I had as a child growing up on the stage. I look forward to bringing that same joy to others and working with young artists to cultivate that excitement for making art come to life.
As assistant director for the BHS drama department, I took on many roles to help grow the theater program for this small high school. I used my years of dance experience to choreograph in a wide variety of styles. I also strived to reach audiences of all ages so I created the Drama Club Executive Council for students in the club to take ownership of their program and gain valuable leadership experience. I also helped to market the theater program by creating and managing social media pages such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Additionally, working with younger children (grades PreK-8) as head of the Children's Ensemble gave me a lot of experience working with kids of all ages and communicating with parents/guardians.
Since taking the job as Teacher and Director for the BHS Drama department, my goal has been to bring organization and fun to develop well-rounded artists. Through the use of Google apps (such as Calendar, Forms, and Sites), I have been able to set clear standards of communication and hold student accountability to a high standard. I enjoy engaging in professional development that helps bring new creative ideas to this program, such as the Broadway Teachers Workshop. I have directed a variety of plays and musicals for both the stage and virtual viewing.
I often seek out compelling, relevant stories with themes that apply to the modern world. I love stories that offer the community a chance to hear and see student growth come to life on stage. My artistic goals are to bring unique stories to the forefront that both teach and inspire everyone to reflect on their own lived experiences. After enduring the hardships of COVID-19, I hope to be part of the change needed in the theater industry to include more diversity and creating a safe creative space where all feel welcome and heard.
I fully enjoy exploring the depth and immense potential of each story. Collaboration and creativity are at the heart of every production I work on. My openness and flexibility have led to great success in the world of theater. Additionally, my philosophy as an educator and leader is to teach my students about the importance of being a light, using one's full creative potential, and exemplifying professionalism. I lead by example by working with others to create new and better "first ideas" that come together to make storytelling possible.
I hope you find what you are looking for in my experience and portfolio here. If interested in working/collaborating together, please reach out and let's make some theater.
