I have been an educator in Frederick County Public Schools since 2016. During this time I have had the opportunity to teach English at both the merit and honors level for grades 9-11. I have also been teaching theater classes at the secondary level since 2018. Courses include Introduction to Theater, Acting 2, Advanced Acting, and Technical Theater where I have created and implemented my own curriculum following state and national standards for college and career readiness. In these courses, students explore a variety of aspects of theater including creating theatrical elements, performing independently and with others, responding to theatrical works, and connecting theater to the modern world. My philosophy of teaching has always been to teach students the importance of self advocacy and ownership.
Prior to my time in Frederick County, I also worked as an Instructional Assistant at Foundations Behavioral Health (Doylestown, PA) in a secondary emotional support classroom. I learned about how an empathetic approach to teaching can have a huge impact on teens and young adults. I also worked part time as a tutor at Huntington Learning Center (North Wales, PA) where I worked with students on mastering skills in Reading, Writing, and Math for all grades levels (K-12).
Before finding my path in teaching, I also had a variety of other work experiences that have shaped me and taught about many different businesses. I worked as a client support representative for CardSmith LLC (now Blackboard Transact) and as a nanny for a family local to Doylestown, PA. I also spent my time in college and high school working for family-owned flower shops which taught me the importance of hard work, respecting others, and valuing the importance of small, local business.
