Izaak Walton League of America
Welcome to the Izaak Walton League of Lynchburg! We are part of the Izaak Walton League of America, a non-profit national conservation organization with a mission, "To conserve, maintain, protect and restore the soil, forest, water, and other national resources of the United States and other lands, to promote means and opportunities for the education of the public with respect to such resources and their enjoyment and wholesome utilization."
Established in January 1941, one of the ways the Lynchburg, Virginia Chapter has striven to fulfill the IWLA mission is through the development and maintenance of our Walton Park recreational facility. Located in Amherst County just north of Madison Heights, Walton Park covers 325 acres and includes a campground, swimming and fishing lakes, picnic areas, playgrounds, and shotgun, rifle, pistol, and archery ranges.
Also see our Facebook pages Izaak Walton League of Lynchburg and Walton Park Archery.
Park is open 10-4pm. Ranges open 11-3pm. Kids fishing tourney begins at lower lake at 10:30am.
2019 OPEN HOUSE RAFFLE TICKET WINNERS!
Winner of the Colt .22: Jack C., sold by member Nate Caplinger (Daytime Drawing)
Winner of the Sig: Tim G., sold by member Josh Silby (Night Drawing)
IWLL members and guests are encouraged to bring personal (cased) air guns and lead pellets to the open house 8/24/19 at the IWLL Air Gun Range!
Safe handling and shooting, accuracy check and sighting in will be conducted on paper as well as an offer for 'fun' shooting at silhouettes and challenging noisy steel targets...
Remember to bring hat, water bottle, and sun screen.
Also, the rifle, pistol, and trap & skeet ranges will be open and IWLL members and guests can bring their own guns and ammo to shoot. Just remember to bring them unloaded and in gun cases. Before you bring them out of your vehicle notify one of the range officers (ask if necessary) and he/she will come to your vehicle and ensure the guns are unloaded before you bring them to the range, and ensure that there is a spot open on the range. There will also be guns and ammo available to try if you just want to come without a gun and see what it's all about! Eye and ear protection is required. Your normal glasses are OK, but it you don't wear glasses bring safety glasses. There will be some eye and ear protection available, but bring your own if you have it.
If you want to shoot your concealed carry gun, bring it in a case and unloaded so it can be checked like any other.
Calling all students in grades 1 through 12!

2019 Amateur Radio Field Day
On Saturday, June 22nd, 2019, IWLL again hosted the Lynchburg Amateur Radio Club (LARC) for the annual ARRL Field Day. On this day, over 40,000 amateur radio operators (hams) in North America hold an "Open House" in which they set up temporary operational locations to practice mobilizing as they would to handle communications during natural disasters or other large-scale emergencies. The public is invited to observe as the hams compete to run up contacts with other hams in remote locations. Also, the public can participate in making contacts. The hams especially like introducing kids to the hobby/discipline. 🙂
IWLL at the Lynchburg Gun Show!
Izaak Walton League of Lynchburg had a booth at the Lynchburg Gun Show at the former Macy's at River Ridge Mall on June 22nd, 2019. Several people volunteered to man (woman) the booth at various times. To avoid leaving anyone out, let's just thank them all! They talked to a lot of people, gave out information, and raised awareness of IWLL and it's role in the community.
Nice article on the Action Pistol Shooting program at Izaak Walton in the Amherst New Era~Progress newspaper. Share this with any friends you think might want to participate. You don't have to be an Izaak Walton League of Lynchburg member to participate (but we hope you'll join!). Those wanting more information please email Tony Unroe at: firstname.lastname@example.org .
