LVRP Law Enforcement Procedures
Arrest Procedures
Approach the suspect calmly, explain charges and use cuff motion (Saying -cuffs- when cuffing a suspect).
Prioritize safety and clear communication in every arrest. Always remember Miranda v. Arizona (1966).
Traffic stop protocols
Signal the vehicle to pull over, approach from a safe angle, keep communication professional, clear and effective and ask for necessary information
(ex. ID, registration...) while staying alert.
Search & Seizure guidelines
Only conduct searches when justified (probable cause or consent). Follow laws on where and how searches can be done on suspects, vehicles, and property
Brief Use of Force protocol
Start with verbal orders and escalate to force only if necessary. Follow use of force guidelines (Found in Weapons & Equipment usage) to ensure actions
remain realistic and justified.
Pursuit Policy
Pursue only when warranted by the severity of the crime. Prioritize public safety, call for backup if the pursuit poses high risks. Try to not break many traffic laws
and always attempt to stay in the right side of the road.
