March 8, 2024: Pratyasha and Yashashwani make beautiful LVQM pen stands from repurposed earthenware
After enjoying some mishti-doi (sweet curd, a delicacy from West Bengal but we also found it in Berhampur, was great!) our earthenware pots were cleaned and to our amazement turned into beautiful lab souvenirs by our exceptionally talented undergraduates Pratyasha (sketching) and Yashashwani (painting). We are really grateful for this touching gesture.
Jan 23, 2024: Pratyasha's Beautiful NaCl Crystals
Pratyasha went to Inter-IISER Cultural Meet at IISER Berhampur and won Gold Medal in dance, with her twin sister Pratikshya, representing the famous Classical Dance form from Odisha, Odissi. She met Dr. Yogesh Singh who, after learning about her time in our group, inspired her to grow her own crystals of common salt: NaCl. We are grateful to him for this inspiration and Pratyasha grew beautiful crystals as can be seen here :-) We hope to have crystals of quantum materials we are excited about as soon as our equipment arrives!
Jan 13, 2024: Rahul and Soumyojit's Trip to IIT-Kharagpur
Rahul is grateful to the ICFM (International Conference on Functional Materials) team at IIT-Kharagpur and Dr. Prasana Kumar Sahoo for the opportunity to give an invited lecture. We had a great time there thanks to excellent science by the participants, especially the students and the student volunteers who were highly efficient and polite. We are grateful to Dr. Abhay Singh Gour and Prof. Venimadhav Adyam for showing us their labs and facilities at the legendary cryogenics department at IIT-Kharagpur. It was excellent to see such dedication for the low -temperature Physics and engineering. The photographs also show India's first superconducting cable with Dr. Gour and team. The event also had a great cultural program. We also visited Nehru Museum of science and were amazed by hands-on exhibits which will send a lot of young students on this rewarding journey of science. We will try to emulate this at IISER-Berhampur! Rahul is grateful to Prof. Debabrata Pradhan and Dr. Pankaj Patro (in the photo in front of Kalidas Auditorium) who are part of IIT-B alumni family like Rahul and gave lots of tips for science and life from their vast experience.
