COMMUNITY ARTIST TEAM: ANN ROSENTHAL AND JOANN MORAN
Rosenthal and Moran have worked together on several community-engaged public art projects in Pittsburgh and neighboring communities. Together they offer over 40 years of experience and tactical skills. They are both accomplished artists who use their collective expertise in design and environmental education to increase public participation and stewardship to maintain the beauty and sustainability of our outdoor spaces.

Ann Rosenthal is an artist, educator, writer, and occasional curator. She addresses the intersections of nature and culture through climate change, biodiversity, biophilia, and topophilia. Ann was honored with the “Woman of Environmental Art” Award from PennFuture in 2020. Ann is one of four editors for Ecoart in Action: Activities, Case Studies, and Provocations for Classrooms and Communities (New Village Press, 2022), featuring the work of 67 ecoartists from the international Ecoart Network. She initiated LUNA (Learning Urban Nature through Art) in 2016 to provide ecoliteracy and visual arts programs that foster an appreciation for urban nature through hands-on art making. Ann received her MFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999. She maintains a studio and residence in the Bloomfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Learn more about Ann's work here.
Asphalt Art & Traffic Calming | Working with community groups, JoAnn has orchestrated residents painting streets and storm drains with eco-centric designs.
PUBLIC ART & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT As an interdisciplinary thinker and creator, JoAnn brings artists, youth, community stakeholders, educational institutions, and businesses together to create dynamic, collaborative learning opportunities. She has worked with over 70,000 people of all ages and abilities to create community-engaged art projects throughout the US and abroad.
Her summer youth employment and k-8 school year program titled Lots of Fish focuses on watershed education and reducing pollutants in our waterways.
She works in partnership with municipal departments to design, manage, and execute projects while engaging community members in a safe work environment. She holds OSHA 30 certification.
