During preparation for the meeting with curriculum designers, the timing was one of the factors I had to consider. Reason is the rapid changes caused by technology in the world we live in. The question was, where should the focus be when developing curriculum? Do we focus on the problem we see today or prepare for the future? What is the future looks like? These were all the questions sparked up the conversations with curriculum designers.
According to the World Economic Forum report (2019), learners on the current system are being prepared for jobs that do not exist yet. Cognitive flexibility, Computational skills, Emotional and social intelligence are among of the top skills needed now and in the future.
The findings after our discussions were that, the education system is outdated yet some learning theories, paradigms such as constructivism learning theory are still applicable and relevant in the science of education and technology.
Conclusions were that Educators has to re-think pedagogical strategies in particular assessments in the 21st century, fourth industrial revolution and beyond.
