The Lufkin Road Middle School Band Program offers four concert ensembles: Beginning Band,  Beginning Select Band (2nd Semester ONLY), Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Lightning Pep Band. Under Mr. Wing’s direction, the Lufkin Road Band program has grown to approximately 350 students. Beginning Band students meet in homogenous classes, while students in the Beginning Select, Concert and Symphonic Bands are audition-based, leveled ensembles.

Lufkin Road Middle School Band students regularly earn spots in prestigious groups such as the WCPSS Middle School All-County Honor Band, NC ECDBA Middle School All-District Bands, and the North Carolina All-State Band. Under Mr. Wing’s direction, the Lufkin Road Bands consistently receive Superior Ratings at both state and local festivals. The Lufkin Road Middle School Symphonic Band was recently invited to perform at the National Invitational Music Festival - Festival of Gold in Chicago, Illinois in April of 2027. In 2026, the Lufkin Road Middle School Symphonic Band was an Invited Ensemble at the Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival in Atlanta, GA hosted by Georgia State University and in 2025, the Lufkin Road Middle School Symphonic Band was invited to perform at the Music for All Mid-Atlantic Concert Band Festival in College Park, MD hosted by the University of Maryland.
