a. History of Yupparaj Wittayalai School


1899 – 1900 The original name of the model school in the Payap province was the First Government School in Chiang Mai province.

On 24 December 1905 King Vajiravudh, the Crown Prince who later become King Rama VI, paid a royal visit to Chiang Mai and named the school, β€œYupparaj Wittayalai School”. Therefore, we consider this as the school’s founding date. Her Royal Highness Princess Jao Dararasamee and Prince Jao Intrawarorot Suriyawong donated their palace grounds as land for the school, more than 29 rai (46,400 meter2).

25 January 1926 King Rama VII Phra Pokklao Chao Yu Hua and Queen Rambhai Barni paid a royal visit and gave a Cup Scout troop of the Payap Province in from the Yupparaj Building.Β 

9 March 1958 King Rama IX Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit paid a royal visit to the school and wrote in the Visitor’s Book.

18 April 1984 The school received royal permission to establish a Hall honoring Wichirawut Anusorn in the Yupparaj Building in Chiang Mai and place King Rama VI’s royal seat in area by the gable fade of Yupparaj Building.

1 January 1989 Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda become the royal patron of the school and graciously declared that this day be a royal occasion every year.

28 – 30 May 2007 Yupparaj Wittayalai School passed the evaluation for quality schools from the Office of Standars and Quality Evaluation achieving the standard of β€œVery Good” for each criteria during the second round of evaluations.

School year 2008 The school received the designation as Lap School – A quality school within the neighborhood (also called A Dream School, in the second stage). The school was also given the King’s Royal School Award as a large, secondary school. The school become a To Be Number One Friend Corner when Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya presided at opening ceremony of the new building on 14 August 2008.

School year 2008 The school received an Outstanding Award for maintaining a high standard of Arts and Culture from the Fine Arts Department. The school was also chosen to be site for developing an Outstanding Student Support System form the Office of Basic Education.
