The Loom : Weaving tales of wisdom and wonder
The Loom : Weaving tales of wisdom and wonder
Storytelling evenings for Women in Bridport and Dorchester: real life and timeless tales.
Hosted by Megan Simson and Lu Orza
From personal journeys of resilience and triumph to the enchanting wisdom of ancient folk tales, these stories are a celebration of womanhood. Whether you seek inspiration, connection, or simply an evening of beautiful storytelling, this is an event not to be missed.
The Loom story night provides a space where women - both new and not so new to sharing stories - can perform in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment. It is a curated event with six women pre-selected and supported with sharing their story before hand.
If you wish to perform a story, real life or fairy lore, at one of our nights in Bridport or Dorchester, please contact me.
The Loom is a monthly story night for women that started in Bridport in October 2024 and is going strong, with a growing community of women sharing their stories or coming along to listen and connect in a gently held space.
When: We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month, from 7.00 – 9.00pm. (See dates below)
Where: Venue TBC on a monthly basis
After the success of Bridport, we have decided to expand The Loom to Dorchester, initially on a bi-monthly basis. We look forward to inviting 4 – 6 women to come and share a true life tale, a piece of fiction or poetry, or a traditional story or myth that speaks to a specific moment or experience in their life. Each gathering is themed, and we welcome literal, metaphorical or extremely loose interpretations of the theme – it’s a jumping off point for inspiration more than a strict guideline!
When: Our inaugural gathering of The Loom in Dorchester will be on Wednesday 4th February. Thereafter we will meet every other month, on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. (See dates below)
Where: Dorchester Corn Exchange (Cafe/bar Gallery), High East Street DT1 1HF
Loom After Dark
We have decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day with sexuality rather than romance. Loom After Dark will be an evening of cocktails and ‘adult’ themed stories with a touch of spice, a twist of erotica, or a wink of sauciness. The evening will be held at Dark Bear @Viking Village, from 6.30 – 9.00pm (stories start at 7.15pm)
Tickets: £12 / £15 / £20 (pay what you can) - ticket price includes cock/mocktail. Advance booking only.
Firsts
For our inaugural gathering of The Loom in Dorchester we are excited to be joined by four local women with marvellous tales to tell on the theme of Firsts. World firsts, personal firsts, life-changing experiments, or a leap of faith into an entirely unknown future. As we set out on this new venture to bring The Loom to a wider circle of women, we invite you to reflect on times when you may have taken the first step on a journey of a thousand miles, written the first word of a novel, poem or memoir, or stood up for the first time in front of an audience to speak your truth.
Tickets: £5 / £8 (pay what you can) in advance or on the door
